Obsession, the most recent Netflix Miniseries, is a slight continuation of what viewers saw in Sex/Life. It’s not a carbon copy of Sex/life or Sex/life 2, but it is a nice thriller with some eroticism.
In addition to being a gifted and well-known surgeon who gained notoriety by splitting conjoined twins, William Farrow (Richard Armitage) is also a quiet and humble person. He is also a feminist because he is wed to Indira Varma, a prominent female barrister. His idyllic existence, however, is upended when he develops feelings for his son’s enigmatic fiancée Anna (Charlie Murphy). Based on the 1991 book Damage by Josephine Hart, which was made into a movie starring Jeremy Irons, Juliette Binoche, and Miranda Richardson the following year.

While seeing the film’s numerous sex scenes, the audience can unwind. The desire between William and Anna is initially seen at a packed party in the parliament, and it then manifests itself in nudity in a friend’s flat, against walls in Paris, and in a garden.

On the first hand, it is a little tough to digest why William fell in lust with his son’s girlfriend-fiancee Anna. It’s strange how the surgeon’s unrestrained behavior contrasts with Anna’s astute response. The audience initially interprets Anna’s behavior (sexual encounters) as a calculated risk she took in order to manipulate both her father and son for pleasure; yet, in subsequent episodes, we learn that it was all a mindless passion for pure sex.
Hart’s drama only has one 30-minute episode; the others are all no longer than 40 minutes. The plot is extremely predictable and weak, and it seems that the goal was to cut all of the scenes involving sexual tension from the show as quickly as possible.
The romance between the characters is primarily depicted through the subtle glances and long stares that occur while they are washing up in the Farrow kitchen after Anna meets her fiance’s parents. After the opening scene where Anna asks “Is that for me?” at the parliamentary party and William pushes the olive into her mouth with an awkwardness that is surprising for someone who had just separated conjoined twins, the romance is primarily shown through these exchanges.
The character interactions in this program could have been made more compelling and realistic. Maybe they were too preoccupied with monitoring the show’s nudity ratio.
The leads gave the thin material they were given their utmost effort. The majority of viewers find the novel-based miniseries to be watchable overall.
